Welcome to the Imaginary Garden ...

Springtime
celebration in my garden
the ferns are smiling
rejoicing the change of season.
Fronds are appearing
uncurling in their pre-historic way
the inhabitants are planning an awakening.
the tree fern folk skip about
the maiden hair people frolic
running randomly among the thickening growth.
The warming of the garden
as life returns
my fairy people invite me
once again into their world
to explore the depths of wonder
their world holds for me
taking me in their tiny hands
I am led through amazing landscapes
minute to our eye
wondrous beyond belief
of beauty unimagined.
And yet
I can embrace
marvel at nature's vista
be humbled
in its presence.
Momentarily the weeds
who grin mischievously
their cheekiness well known
become part of the grandeur I behold.
But as I say,
only for a moment.

Wordle #24 - Poltergeist the Band

The band I formed in 1976 was called Poltergeist.
Some said we stank as a band but we had a lot of fun.
Mephitic music some called it.
The ivories twinkled
Moments of static, to keep you guessing
Inimical times for audiences just didn’t get us
When our lives were at risk
Our bones in danger of serious fractures
As we stood on the threshold of greatness
Our futures hanging in the balance
But on the fifth day, disaster
Alarm bells, vapours rising
Our lives did literally become static.
Now in my senescent days
I reflect on what might have been.
At times I do have mephitic moments
Nightmares of an inimical nature
But I hold those times close to me.
Poltergeist still screams to me
As I swim in night vapours.

Magpie Tales - Sunday, August 31, 2014 – Great Catch - Mag 235

-->
Image: Dark Harbor, 1943, N. C. Wyeth

A bounty to surpass all others
Surprised myself
Alf amazed at our haul.
The seagulls hysterical.
It comes with pleasant consequences
New clothes for the kids
A new hat for the wife
A full pantry
Home life contentment.
Makes up for the days of minimal catch
Barely enough to feed us
Nothing to sell
Desperate times
Hunger a way of life.
Now in the immediate,
More settled times.
Though after todays elation
Tomorrow it all begins again
Nets out
Hopes high
Dreams a plenty
Seagulls just as frenzied.

Magpie Tales Sunday, August 24, 2014 – Face

                                                           Starry Night by Alex Ruiz

Illuminesence
Constellations
Silhouettes
Where to begin he thought.

Took hours to get here
The sky is brilliant
Dare I capture it all?
Can I do that?
Right now I am overcome
Magnificence and grief
Such strange bed fellows.
I wonder what goes on out there
In their day to day?
My candle is burning down
Paint at the ready
I’ll engross myself in this
See where it takes me.
That crescent moon
Reminds me of a love I lost
A spark was all there was
No time for nurturing.
Consumption.
Sorrow.
All a matter of what if.
Her face is what I see
Even now staring into these heavens
It’s her image
Glittering among the stars
I see it now
As I take up my brush.

Prompt #69 “A Dream Come True?” - Ambition

-->
You aimed high,
The sky you said.
It was a driving ambition
Nothing would stand in your way
Including me
Friends
Decency
Wisdom.
You trampled on the lives of others
But you did succeed.
You have to gold office
Plush chair
Secretary with benefits
(Your words not mine).
A wife who complements you
A family the envy of most.
You have it made
Except, where are the friends?
The ones who stood by you?
The mates who took you in on those dark nights?
There’s a price you pay
You don’t see it
Oblivious to others
Now its all me me me.
So while you have it all
There’s only one way to go now
And it’s a long way down!

Fairytale #22 - The Oracle

Wisdom, words of
uttered casually but
with great intent
listen, they will make a difference
when the times comes.
the quest is long
danger lurks
can it be overcome?
courage is asked for
come gird your loins
there's adventure amongst adversity.
the fairy children might beguile you
lead you falsely
beware the one carrying gifts
keep your wits about you
carry a bit stick
even better a laser lighter
for demons hate the light
it melts their eyes
which makes them
easy targets.
The Oracle's words taken on board
ensure safe and trouble free passage
but listen carefully
sometimes its riddles
sometimes its clear
but take notice
you are only told once.

Patterns

We weave intricate patterns
lives with many dimensions
moments when the past stays with us
times when the future is obscured
when there's a void we just want to hide in.
then again who would change our lot?
we are who we are
a stitch or two dropped along the way
a hitch, a hiccup,
but learning as we go
hard lessons, nothing is easy
but it's a forward motion
a pattern we each embroider
a little at a time
till we have perfection
staring at us
as it all comes to an end
our pattern complete
our lives tied off.
Others look at us and hopefully
agree the end justified the means
a clash of colour, a few rough ends
all part of this thing we call the pattern of life.
